The Underdog Unit

Leading with Command, Healing with Hope

SGT Sassy: Lead Psychological Service Animal

SGT Sassy is the commanding presence of Underdog Nation. As a Lead Psychological Service Animal, she is trained to provide stability in the face of chaos. Her ability to transition into active protection when the safety of her unit is at stake is a cornerstone of her service.

The Elevator Incident: During a field training session, the unit was cornered by a rogue, unleashed dog. SGT Sassy immediately shifted into "Protection Mode," shielding Nurse Hope and their handler. Her disciplined intervention neutralized the threat, proving her commitment to the safety of all those under her watch.

Now serving as Lead Field Trainer, Sassy uses her real-world experience to mentor Nurse Hope, teaching her that a true service animal must be as vigilant as they are compassionate.

Nurse Hippity Hop: Service Dog in Training

Nurse Hope (Hopi) is a survivor of the Ellis Hollow incident and our current Medical Service Dog in Training. Having witnessed SGT Sassy’s bravery during the elevator attack, Hope is learning firsthand what it means to be a guardian in the medical field.

Her focus remains on clinical empathy and patient care, guided by Sassy’s mentorship and the Hopi traditions of balance. She is mastering the art of remaining purposeful, regardless of the terrain.
